I've taken five classes so far. Three salsa and two Tango. All have been excellent. The best part about this place is the community aspect. Everyone is so friendly! As a recent transplant to Austin it's amazing to have a place to make some new friends while learning how to dance!
The first class is free because they know you'll wanna come back! Approachable instructors. Charming studio. I took the Tango beginner lesson and left confident in what we were taught and eager for me.
We had such a good time at the beginner's Tango class. I highly recommend this place for anyone trying to get into Latin dance.
A great salsa teacher. Why I still only give three stars: because far too many follower were missing. Well I'm a follower, but you can tell exactly which leader didn't have a follower when the steps were explained, they basically "learned with the air" instead with a person. These were the leader who weren't very good at swapping steps and were constantly apologizing. So it would be great if the dance school would attract more followers.
Now I have to change to one star (this is for the great work of salsa teacher Robby).
What happend today: Unfortunately there are no lockers in the dance school. The valuables were just lying around on the benches, so I only took my credit card that fit in my pocket. Unfortunately, the card reader didn't accept my credit card, even though I use it to pay for my purchases every day. Esquina tango is only working with swiping the credit card. No other possibility. I asked the lady for another opportunity to pay. For example to insert the card. Not possible. Then I asked at reception to make an exception. I promised to pay the next day with another credit card or cash for 2 days as I would like to come back the following day. She hid behind the fact that she wasn't personally to blame. Unfortunately, she was unwilling to take responsibility for the card reader not working. She ignored me for 20 minutes. Then I asked her politely if she was willing to find a solution. She then respond, completely overwhelmed, that I am rude. Because I spoke to her again? I would have found it humane to apologize for technology that doesn't work. So she rudely asked me to leave the dance school. Well, one less customer. And I am also a follower and there aren't enough of them anyway.
I am from Germany and I can tell you that we don`t treat costumers like that.
We did Bachata Beginners with Robbie Sky. She was amazing. Took the time to slow down and repeat complicated steps before moving on and danced with multiple people to give us individual attention.
We've done large free classes in the past, but didn't get much out of it. Also did expensive private lessons (with a promotional deal). This felt like a very good in between - affordable but lots of targeted helpful instruction. Group size was about 30.
Yesterday was my first experience with tango... It was amazing... Instructor was excellent A+. She was very helpful... 🫶 …
This dance center and community are one of the main reasons I choose to live in the Austin metro! Vibrant community of friendly cosmopolitan people, world-class dance instructors, and milongas (dance socials) that sparkle and will leave you feeling every time "This was the most magical night of my life!" Come for the great dancing, stay for the amazing community.
The Spanish Conversation class is great. Gabriela is our guide and she encourages us to speak Spanish and have a good time! We are so happy that Esquina Tango has brought Spanish Conversation class back again! ¡Muchas gracias, Gustavo y Monica!
